    Two orders placed at the same factory on the same day can finish weeks apart. These are the variables that matter most:

    • Part complexity and setups. Every additional setup adds fixturing, re-zeroing, and intermediate inspection. Parts that need 4-axis or 5-axis machining, deep pockets, thin walls, or undercuts simply take longer to program and cut.
    • Material availability. Common grades such as aluminum 6061 and 7075 are normally available from stock within days. Exotic alloys, certified aerospace materials, and engineering plastics like PEEK may need to be ordered, adding procurement time before machining begins.
    • Tolerances and inspection scope. Holding ±0.002 mm tolerances requires slower feeds, more passes, and careful in-process checks. Match your inspection requirements to what the part actually needs; prototype parts rarely need production-grade paperwork.
    • Order volume. First runs are slower because programming, fixtures, and first-article approval all happen once. Repeat orders move noticeably faster because that groundwork is already done.
    • Factory workload and shifts. A shop running its machines 20 hours a day will turn urgent work around far faster than a single-shift operation. It is worth asking about current capacity before you place an order.
    • Chinese public holidays. The Lunar New Year shutdown (usually late January or February) can stall production for one to two weeks, and the Golden Week holiday in early October adds roughly another week. Plan around these windows if your schedule is tight.

    Most delays are avoidable, and many of them start on the buyer's side. A few practical habits make a measurable difference:

    • Send complete, final drawings (2D PDF plus 3D STEP files) with your RFQ. Every clarification round costs a day or more across time zones.
