Check the public registry. For ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, search IAF CertSearch by company name. For AS9100, use the OASIS database . Confirm the certificate number, expiry date, and the issuing certification body. An expired certificate means the system has not been audited recently.
Read the scope statement. The scope must cover the work you are buying. A certificate scoped to "assembly of finished devices" does not cover CNC machining of components. Look for wording such as "machining of precision mechanical parts" or similar.
